do you have qtcore installed? Which USE are you suing for PyQt4? Which version of sip and PyQt4 are you using?
Comment 3 Fred Labrosse 2014-11-03 11:18:22 UTC
I confirm with version 1.22.

qtcore-4.8.5-r2
PyQt4-4.10.3-r2
sip-4.15.3

The offending part seems to be:

/usr/bin/sip -c /var/tmp/portage/sci-visualization/veusz-1.22/work/veusz-1.22-py
thon2_7/temp.linux-x86_64-2.7 -x VendorID -t WS_X11 -x PyQt_NoPrintRangeBug -t Q
t_4_8_4 -x Py_v3 -I /usr/share/sip/PyQt4 -b /var/tmp/portage/sci-visualization/v
eusz-1.22/work/veusz-1.22-python2_7/temp.linux-x86_64-2.7/qtmml.sbf veusz/helper
s/src/qtmml/qtmml.sip
sip: Unable to find file "QtCore/QtCoremod.sip"

Indeed, /usr/share/sip is not in any path mentioned and this is where QtCore/QtCoremod.sip is to be found.
Comment 4 Justin Lecher (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2014-11-03 11:36:43 UTC
For me works with latest PyQt4, sip, veusz and qtcore
Comment 5 Fred Labrosse 2014-11-03 12:29:32 UTC
Thanks for that. Could you quantify "latest" please? I use the latest, as off today, stable of qtcore, sip and PyQt4.

I forgot to give my USE flags. Here they are:

dev-python/PyQt4: X dbus declarative kde opengl phonon script sql svg webkit -debug -designer -doc -examples -help -multimedia -scripttools -xmlpatterns PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7 python3_3 -python3_2"

dev-python/sip: -debug -doc PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7 python3_3 -python3_2"

dev-qt/qtcore: exceptions glib iconv icu qt3support ssl -aqua -debug -pch

Trying veusz-1.22 with dbus -doc -emf -fits -hdf5 {-test} -vo" PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7 python3_3 -python3_4"
Comment 6 Justin Lecher (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2014-11-03 12:42:36 UTC

Comment 7 Fred Labrosse 2014-11-03 14:22:33 UTC
I tried to update sip: can't, without opening a huge can of worms. Current stable kde wants sip-4.15. So it's either waiting for an update of kde or back porting whatever changed in sip and/or veusz. From the error message it looks like it is "just" a question of missing a directory in the given paths. Don't know enough of ebuild to fix that though.

The following might be a clue?

https://hub.qgis.org/issues/11465
Comment 8 Justin Lecher (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2014-11-03 14:34:32 UTC
I know the fix and veusz already implemented it. So I wonder why it doesn't work for you. (https://github.com/jeremysanders/veusz/commit/9abfcad0e17990d671475bf8ff4dfe236329e8a2#diff-f6ee9616b368f035bb655dfc344ad588)

Do older veusz version work for you? Which is the latest which works?
Comment 9 Fred Labrosse 2014-11-03 14:44:12 UTC
1.21.1 installs fine (just did it).
Comment 10 Fred Labrosse 2014-12-15 14:39:37 UTC
I just did an upgrade and now have sip-4.16.4, qtcore 4.8.5-r2 and PyQt4-4.11.1. Installing veusz-1.22 still fails at the same point.
Comment 11 Justin Lecher (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2014-12-15 15:21:21 UTC

please try PyQt4-4.11.3
Comment 12 Fred Labrosse 2014-12-15 15:36:05 UTC
Works with PyQt4-4.11.3
Comment 13 Fred Labrosse 2016-04-29 11:12:16 UTC
I'm re-investigating this because trying to install pyqwt (required by ROS) and this wants exactly PyQt4-4.11.1. Is a newer version of PyQt4 really needed? On the veusz mailing list someone commented that they have PyQt4-4.8.6 on their system with no problem. I don't have any more detail than that though.

Cheers,

Fred

sync portage and the latest unstable works fine
