Just my thoughts on this -- silc-toolkit should be providing shared libs only. Since the client is packaged and versioned separately (and more current) from the toolkit, we should not have the toolkit providing client binaries. --without-irssi should be the default and remove the "client" USE flag. Additionally, we should add a new package for silc-server, which is also packaged & versioned separately from the toolkit and remove that from silc-toolkit. Cheers
rizzo, I added net-im/silc-toolkit-0.9.12-r2 to CVS. Made CFLAGS aware and it now installs shared libraries, so gaim can link to them instead the static ones. I compiled gaim with USE=silc and it seems to work fine. Could you please test?

OK, latest versions in portage don't block each other. Also added an ebuild for silc-server. Closing.
