The /etc/ccwgroup.conf file is not enough for 2.6 kernels to work, but we also need a script (normally /sbin/ccwgroup) and an init.d script that invokes this to load the parameters from this file to the kernel.

Maybe we could rip the script from debian or somewhere?

the net scripts support ccwgroup now for NICs:
ccwgroup_eth0=( "0.0.9000" "0.0.9001" "0.0.9002" )
