Description sebastian 2014-10-18 14:18:28 UTC
Hi,

I am getting the following error message when attempting to update portage:

--

# emerge --oneshot portage
!!! Found 2 make.conf files, using both '/etc/make.conf' and '/etc/portage/make.conf'

 * IMPORTANT: 3 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
 * Use eselect news to read news items.

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild     U  ] sys-apps/portage-2.2.8-r2 [2.2.8-r1] PYTHON_TARGETS="python3_3* (-python2_6*) (-python3_2*)"

!!! Multiple package instances within a single package slot have been pulled
!!! into the dependency graph, resulting in a slot conflict:

sys-apps/portage:0

  (sys-apps/portage-2.2.8-r1::gentoo, installed) pulled in by
    sys-apps/portage[python_targets_python2_7(-)?,python_targets_python3_2(-)?,python_targets_python3_3(-)?,-python_single_target_python2_7(-),-python_single_target_python3_2(-),-python_single_target_python3_3(-)] required by (app-admin/webapp-config-1.52-r1::gentoo, installed)

  (sys-apps/portage-2.2.8-r2::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) pulled in by
    (no parents that aren't satisfied by other packages in this slot)

!!! Enabling --newuse and --update might solve this conflict.
!!! If not, it might help emerge to give a more specific suggestion.

--

My /etc/make.conf contains:

USE_PYTHON="2.7 3.3 3.4"
PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7 python3_3 python3_4"
PYTHON_SINGLE_TARGET="python2_7"

Using "--newuse" and "--update" as well did not work either - would somebody mind investigating the issue?

Many thanks.

Kind regards
Sebastian

Comment 1 Tomáš Mózes 2014-10-18 19:40:26 UTC
- try to migrate your /etc/make.conf to /etc/portage/make.conf
- if you don't need the old python versions, remove them (2.6, 3.1)
- for what reason do you have this in our make.conf?

USE_PYTHON="2.7 3.3 3.4"
PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7 python3_3 python3_4"
PYTHON_SINGLE_TARGET="python2_7"

Do you really need it that way?

- `eselect python list` shows what?
