Description dbtayl 2014-10-18 03:26:02 UTC
After upgrading to Linux 3.17, USB HID devices have ceased working when connected directly to my ThinkPad T400's USB ports. Nothing regarding the device appears in dmesg, lsusb, lsinput, etc. Can't type on the keyboard or move the mouse and have a response from the computer.

Works fine with sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-3.16.[16].

A keyboard will function as the machine boots up, iff it's connected at power-up. It will continue to function as long as you keep typing (if as the machine boots you keep hitting keys, you can actually type at the login prompt). As soon as you stop, the keyboard ceases to function. In this case, the keyboard DOES appear at /dev/hidraw0. If the keyboard is unplugged and re-plugged in at this point, it will disappear from /dev/hidraw0.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-3.17.[01] on ThinkPad T400
2. Plug in USB mouse or keyboard straight into computer
3. Attempt to use said mouse/keyboard
Actual Results:
Nothing. Nothing in dmesg, nothing in lsusb, nothing in lsinput

Expected Results:
Output in dmesg indicating a new USB device has been connected; ability to type on keyboard/move mouse cursor

Input devices work OK on my desktop (don't have access to it at the moment to give exact specs- it's custom-built Core i5 Sandy Bridge machine) with sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-3.17.0.

I should add that the keyboard/mouse functions as expected when connected through a USB hub.

T400 <-> USB keyboard == Doesn't work

T400 <-> USB hub <-> USB keyboard == Works

Last thing- USB flash drives function correctly when connected directly to the USB ports under 3.17
