the arcade emulator xmame has two different versions located in two differnt
places in the portage tree. This is the results of a emerge -s xmame:


*  app-emulation/xmame
      Latest version Available: 0.60.1-r2
      Latest version Installed: [ Not Installed ]
      Homepage: http://x.mame.net
      Description: 
      Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator for X11
 
*  app-games/xmame
      Latest version Available: 0.56.1
      Latest version Installed: [ Not Installed ]

fixing this ebuild was a blast... I removed the app-games/xmame directory

yeah, lke this one was REAL hard to fix :-P
