Description Patrick Lauer gentoo-dev 2014-10-02 05:54:42 UTC
Happens when neither nfs nor nfsmount init scripts are started ...

# mount -t nfs 192.168.0.1:/storage/stuff /mnt/stuff
/usr/sbin/start-statd: line 8: systemctl: command not found
^C

at this point it hangs for "a long time" (>2min) until it gets aborted

# cat /usr/sbin/start-statd
#!/bin/bash -p
# nfsmount calls this script when mounting a filesystem with locking
# enabled, but when statd does not seem to be running (based on
# /var/run/rpc.statd.pid).
# It should run statd with whatever flags are apropriate for this
# site.
PATH=/sbin:/usr/sbin
if systemctl start statd.service
then :
else
    exec rpc.statd --no-notify

Just ran into this one myself. How nice to see that scripts are starting to assume everyone is using systemd now...
Comment 2 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2014-10-17 19:53:12 UTC
it's been fixed in latest upstream. no plans to backport since it's a minor issue and you shouldn't be using the script in the first place.
Comment 3 Joshua Kinard gentoo-dev 2014-10-18 02:34:59 UTC
I wasn't running the script directly. /etc/init.d/nfs start was calling /usr/sbin/start-statd, in some form.
Comment 4 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2014-10-20 16:44:03 UTC
(In reply to Joshua Kinard from comment #3)

pretty sure that is not the case. start-statd is called by some nfs progs indirectly when the rpc.statd hasn't already been started. when using Gentoo init scripts, they should already make sure rpc.statd is started first.
