I'm trying to install kde-base/kde-meta-4.14.1 on my stable system running kde-base/kde-meta-4.12.5. I have also net-im/kde-telepathy-meta-0.8.1 installed. The problem is in the dependencies that make kde-base/kde-meta-4.14.1 and net-im/kde-telepathy-meta-0.8.1 completely not installable together, which I think it's not the right behavior. I propose to slot the qt-gstreamer ebuild, and make them use different slots, in order to install them together. Ok, I agree with that but, how can this issue be solved? It's still somehow unmanageable as of today until a proper solution. Maybe trying to port ktp to qt-gstreamer-1.x? I know this is a port currently followed by developers, and I guess they haven't ported it yet, am I right?
Agreed something needs to be done. Porting should be complete in KTP 0.9.0, so far preleases stopped at 0.8.80. Perhaps we should consider shipping it (Fedora does).
I just want to update this bug request saying that I was able to install the latest kde-meta (4.14.2, at the time I'm writing) with the testing version of ktp (0.9.0) found on the kde overlay. I think it's time to port it to the portage.
ktp-0.9.0 is in the tree now.
