A number of packages now print ewarns like: * Fallback PaX marking -m with scanelf * Please check that PaX marking worked Even if I knew how to do that, I imagine it would be very difficult without knowing what file scanelf was supposed to mark. $ emerge --info Portage 2.2.12 (python 2.7.8-final-0, default/linux/amd64/13.0, gcc-4.8.3, glibc-2.19-r1, 3.13.1-gentoo x86_64) Can you sync your tree and try again. This code has changed.
It looks like the warning is completely gone now. Assuming that was intentional, it seems like a fine resolution to me. I'm marking this FIXED. Feel free to change if I've misunderstood something.
(In reply to William Throwe from comment #2) > It looks like the warning is completely gone now. Assuming that was > intentional, it seems like a fine resolution to me. > > I'm marking this FIXED. Feel free to change if I've misunderstood something. Yes that was intentional. On vanilla systems without paxctl or elfix, you got repeated warnings which were annoying. The problem is that scanelf doesn't return a good error code for the eclass to capture and properly report a full out failure to mark by any of the three methods. So if we fell back on scanelf, we were just warning "hey we had to go this far" but it doesn't mean a failure. Again this was annoying on vanilla and so its gone. The correct fix would be to get scanelf to report failures and then catch and deal with them in the eclass.
