Description Amit Prakash Ambasta 2014-09-08 09:59:42 UTC
ALPS touchpad is recognized as a PS/2 mouse instead of a touchpad. Consequently, scrolling/multitouch etc do not work.

Dmesg tells me:

[ 2.293711] psmouse serio1: alps: Unknown ALPS touchpad: E7=73 03 0a, EC=88 b3 22
[ 3.846448] psmouse serio1: alps: Unknown ALPS touchpad: E7=73 03 0a, EC=88 b3 22

Attached are the dmesg and kernel config

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Build & install kernel
2. Reboot
Actual Results:
Identifies the touchpad as a PS/2 mouse

Expected Results:
Should identify the touchpad as one. Currently, identifying it as a mouse leads to inability to use functions such as scrolling or multi-touch.

Any updates on this issue?

I think this is fixed in 3.17, but I don't know what model of laptop you have.

Could you please install and test the latest git-sources-3.17-rcX which is rc7 as of this writing.
Comment 5 Amit Prakash Ambasta 2014-09-27 08:20:49 UTC
Verified resolved on 3.17-rc6
Comment 6 Mike Pagano gentoo-dev 2014-09-27 13:39:36 UTC
Ok, thanks.

There's a a lot of alps.c updates in this release. Not sure which one to backport, so you may have to run 3.17 for now.

This kernel will be released 'very soon' by Linus.

If it helps, I can try and dissect which commit(s) allow fixing the issue. Also, the 3.17-rcX seems to have regressions wrt iwlwifi
Comment 8 Mike Pagano gentoo-dev 2014-09-27 13:55:33 UTC
That would be awesome
Comment 9 Mike Pagano gentoo-dev 2014-12-17 19:55:52 UTC
Any progress on this? Have you tested later kernels?
Comment 10 Amit Prakash Ambasta 2014-12-17 20:03:30 UTC
It has been verified to work on 3.17.x

Since the kernel is now stable, are the relevant commits still needed to 3.16.x?
Comment 11 Mike Pagano gentoo-dev 2014-12-17 23:02:57 UTC
Thanks for the reply. As I have no plans for any more 3.16 kernels, I will make this as solved.
