Description Forrest Pangborn 2004-05-27 00:06:17 UTC
The online time for a person on a buddy list is displayed as being 2 hours greater than actual online time for AIM. I noticed this by comparing my uptime (1 day 7 hours) to my online time (which was 1 day 9 hours) when I had only been signed on my box.

I also noticed that people that just logon are given online times of around 2 hours.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Logon to AIM
2. Check your online time immediately
3. Wait for a buddy using AIM to sign on, check his/her online time immediately
4. Online times will be 2 hours greater than correct value.

Actual Results:
Online times are two hours greater than correct values.

Expected Results:
Displayed correct online time.

Just to cover all bases, ensure that your clock and time zone settings are correct.

I'm not seeing this problem, my online times are correct.

My clock is set correctly and I'm using local time rather than a given time zone because I dual boot this system with Windows.

If I go to the accounts dialog, log off my AIM account, and then log back on, I'm given an online time of 2 hours 2 minutes or 2 hours 1 minute immediately after logon.

Even if your CLOCK="local" in /etc/rc.conf you still need to set a timezone by creating the sym link per these instructions:

Oh right... My localtime was set to /usr/share/zoneinfo/America/Los_Angeles since I was in the pacific timezone last week, but now am in mountain. So I changed it, now when I login I get the weird 49710 day online time, but after a minute that changes back to normal.

Weird that a timezone off by 1 hour adjusted my online time by 2 hours.

Looks like this was a false alarm. Sorry! Should I set this to invalid or how should I close it? I'm new to the QA process here.

I'll resolve.

Glad that it's working.
