[... Sent through www@gentoo.org by dynamixpro(a)hotmail.com ...] I have a correction that I think may help clear up some confusion for very new linux users. On the following page in the gentoo handbook: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=1&chap=3#doc_chap4 it is stated "If networking has been configured for you, the /sbin/ifconfig command should list some network interfaces besides lo, such as eth0: " This may not always be correct, particularly if the automatic hardware detection detected both a wireless ethernet card AND an ethernet card. In my unique situation, both cards were detected automatically - and the wireless card was assigned eth0. The ethernet card, on the other hand, was assigned eth1. Throughout the entire documentation, the manual references eth0 as the ethernet interface... and never instructs the installer to type "/sbin/ifconfig -a" to see if indeed multiplie ethernet interfaces were detected. I think that by adding this little "-a" to the end of the above line and rewording the next paragraph or two of the documentation appropriately, it could help clear up a ton of confusion for us linux newbies...
Fixed in CVS. I've added a phraze about multiple network cards and that you should make sure the correct network card is used throughout the document.
