Description Markus Wernig 2014-08-11 11:34:21 UTC
After installing and configuring net-misc/strongswan-5.2.0 (via /etc/ipsec.conf) the ipsec system cannot be started via the start script in /etc/init.d/ipsec:

# /etc/init.d/ipsec start
 * Caching service dependencies ...          [ ok ]

/usr/sbin/ipsec: unknown IPsec command `addconn' (`ipsec --help' for list)
 * ERROR: ipsec failed to start

From looking at the file it appears that this is from a very much earlier version of strongswan that only had pluto:
...
description="pluto is an IKE daemon that is used to setup IPSEC VPN connections."
...

Reproducible: Always

From what I can see, it looks like you are trying to use an old configuration from when pluto was around.

It is more of a issue with strongswan than a Gentoo issue.

May I suggest taking it directly to the strongswan upstream people?
They will be able to help debug your configuration better than we can.

You can find their issue tracker here: https://wiki.strongswan.org/projects/strongswan .

Closing as UPSTREAM.
