wicd has problems to allocate an IP address via dhcp. It doesn't matter if connection is wired or wireless or if dhclient or dhcpcd is used. However if dhclient is used interactively from console it always works. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. open wicd network manager 2. try to connect wired or wireless connection Actual Results: Allocation of IP adress fails Expected Results: to have a working network connection maybe a problem IPv4 / IPv6???

Looks like this is a problem with IPv4 IPv6 dual stack. I do get an IPv6 address but not an IPv4. And after timeout even IPv6 address is removed. But running dhcpcd by hand works. I don't know why. I have a dual stack configuration on a fritbox running native IPv4 connection from my ISP. Additional I have a SIXXS 6in4 tunnel connection. After adding "noipv6rs" to /etc/dhcpcd.conf I get an IPv4 adress but this is at the cost of only getting IPv4 connection so I can't reach the IPv6 world. Please see URL as added. Looks like I'm not the only one with this problem. If you need further information please let me know.
I'm very sorry but I can't help you here. This is clearly an upstream problem, but development has stalled: https://answers.launchpad.net/wicd/+question/227789 (upstream is using networkmanager ;) I also have no computer using wicd at the moment. If you have patches or other constructive suggestions I'd be happy to act on them.
I've figured out that using pump as opposed to dhcpcd/dhclient works reliably for wireless but not wired connections, although I have absolutely no idea why.
I found that wicd couldn't get a DCHP address, with a log message saying that it couldn't open stdin. A fix seems to be to replace the stdin in /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/wicd/misc.py with: 132a133 > # wicd has problems calling dhclient via PIPE ### ### 134c135 < std_in = PIPE --- > std_in = None Why this works, or what other effects it has, I don't know. Can you try with current 1.7.4-r3?
