net-misc/netctl depends on net-misc/dhcpcd, but netctl versions lower than 1.8 are not compatible with the current stable dhcpcd (see bug #514166). The stable net-misc/netctl-1.6 relies on a dhcpcd version that doesn't exist in the portage tree anymore. Currently there is only net-misc/dhcpcd-6.4.3 left in the tree which is not supported by <net-misc/netctl-1.8. So if you want to install a stable netctl portage will run into a blocker. The only way to install netctl is to unmask version 1.8 which makes the stable version 1.6 pointless. I propose to remove version 1.6 and 1.7 from the tree and to stabilize version 1.8.
Please stabilize on amd64 and x86. =net-misc/netctl-1.8
This stable tree breakage is exists for a half of year. I'm using netctl-1.8 same time with no issues. Can this be resolved?
