Every call of lowriter writes a, usually empty, file "derby.log" to the current working directory. Sorry everybody, I found that it's due to a plugin for printing electronic stamps, provided by german mail (post), http://www.deutschepost.de/content/dam/dpag/images/i_i/Internetmarke/loeportoinstaller_v1_0_3.oxt Possibly this 'derby.log' generation could be centrally controlled in LibreOffice but since the problem vanishes with that plugin disabled it's obviously not a general LO problem, so closing it!
