Hi, the ati-driver needs some manual downloads but it does not specify where to put them (yeah, /usr/portage, but it would not hurt to tell this). Also after downloading the files, the ebuild was unable to unpack the files because they had wrong permissions (they belonged to my user instead of portage:portage and group did not have write permissions). The ebuild certainly can set the permissions or tell the user to set them properly. Reproducible: Always

I switched to xf86-video-ati and cannot go back without changing mesa, X llvm etc, so I cannot provide a build log. Why do you need emerge --info for an echo "Please copy the downloaded files to /usr/portage/distfiles and make sure they belong to portage:portage" and/or chown portage:portage foo.tgz? The files belonged to myuser:users because of the manual download and after changing this, it worked like I said before.
