Description Michael Kiermaier 2004-05-22 06:53:08 UTC
I have an Apple iBook Rev. 2.2 800 MHz and installed the ppc-development-sources-2.6.4. Wakeup from sleep does not work any more (works on ppc-development-sources-2.6.2 and -2.6.3).

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge ppc-development-sources (version 2.6.4)
2. compile them
3. emerge pbbutonsd
4. rc-update /etc/init.d/pbbuttonsd default
5. reboot new kernel
6. sleep
7. try to resume

Actual Results:
I get the normal text-console resume-messages up to this line:
eth1: Airport waking up

If eth1 (wireless lan) was up before sleeping the iBook, there is one more line:
eth1: New link status: Connected (0001)

After that, the iBook freezes, I cannot do anything but a hard reboot.

Expected Results:
The wakeup should continue, of course.
On 2.6.2 the following wakeup-line would be:

hda: Wakeup request inited, waiting for !BSY...
hda: start_power_step(step: 1000)
ide_pmac: Set UDMA timing for mode 2, reg: 0x1090038c
hda: Enabling Ultra DMA 2
hda: completing PM request, resume
hdb: Wakeup request inited, waiting for !BSY...
hdb: start_power_step(step: 1000)
hdb: MDMA, cycleTime: 120, accessTime: 75, recTime: 45
hdb: Set MDMA timing for mode 2, reg: 0x0001978c

I checked /var/log/everything/current, but there are no messages from the
crashed sleep/wakeup process. (metalog caching was disabled, of course).

I took the kernel config directly from my 2.6.2 kernel (only adjusted the new
options). On 2.6.2, wakeup works flawlessly. Also I tried 2.6.3, and there
aren't any problems with wakeup, either.

my /etc/pbbuttonsd.conf

This is the configuration of the running pbbuttonsd-0.5.11. But I got the same
freeze with several older versions and different configurations of pbbuttonsd.

I did some further investigation and tried (the still masked) ppc-development-sources-2.6.5_rc2-r1. Resume doesn't work there either, but the error seems to be a different one. So I decided to post a seperate bug report: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51747

On 2.6.5_rc2-r1, stopping the alsasound init-script, gives a working resume.

I tried this on 2.6.4, too. But to no avail: resume crashes independently from the state of alsa.

Use the development-sources-2.6.6

I'll mark deprecated the ppc-development-sources in short time.

ppc-development-sources is deprecated now
