Many people who mirgrate from older linux distros (RedHat) aready have Grub or Lilo installed. Often these computers are fairly old and refuse to boot from CD. I found that the simplest method to install Gentoo (and numerous other distros) is to copy the kernel and initrd to the boot partition and then add the relevant entry to the grub or lilo conf file.

I would wonder if gentoo would consider adding this method to the alternative installation documentation.
