using ebuild 2.1-r1 for minicom and not having gettext installed breaks the build  and it reports tha the program 'no' is missing. Google informed me that gettext provides it and indeed, installing gettext fixed it.

gettext is part of the base system , so you shouldn't remove it anyway

Same opinion as seemant. 
It would be too bloated to put all dependencies in DEPEND/RDEPEND. Better not put there those requested by system; it has the same effect and will save some CPU cycles. 

This bug should be marked as INVALID.
