all the icon themes directories installed by gnome-incon-theme-1.2.0 do not include their corresponding desktop.index files which are required by kde icon loader. Here is an excerpt of KDE warnings that I get kdecore (KIconLoader): WARNING: Icon directory /usr/share/icons/hicolor/ group 1 6x16/stock/chart not valid. kdecore (KIconLoader): WARNING: Icon directory /usr/share/icons/hicolor/ group 1 6x16/stock/code not valid. kdecore (KIconLoader): WARNING: Icon directory /usr/share/icons/hicolor/ group 1 6x16/stock/data not valid. k These warnings are aloso discussed in http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=137183&highlight= and http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=157122&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=25 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge gnome-incon-theme-1.2.0 2. start any kde app (i.e: kprinter) 3. look at .xsession-errors Actual Results: Received numerous kde icon loader warnings Expected Results: should have installed the appropriate desktop.index files
hicolor != gnome-icon-theme i bet this is just kde being too rigid about what it expects from an icon theme, hicolor is just a placeholder without much value atm. If it's only warnings it isn't much of a problem either. I think upping hicolor to 0.5 might resolve these warnings.
I tried installing version 0.5 of hicolor-icon-theme and I the warnings still did not go away. I as per notes in the forums, I removed the above package, and warnings went away.
I think this issue is best discussed here: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80839
