1 Ghz G4 PowerBook with ppc 2.6.4-kernel Since sysfs is not mounted by default during the installation mkofboot, ofpath and yabootconfig + anything relating to the bootstrap partition cannot auto determine the Open Firmware path to your bootstrap partition. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Installation of Gentoo 2004.1 on 1Ghz G4 PowerBook 2.Attempt to configure bootstrap partition with yaboot 3. Actual Results: yabootconfig returns a message saying something about running yabootconfig with --chroot appended. Trying to use mkofboot instead says that the OF path to the bootstrap partition could not be determined and to add a line ofboot= to your yaboot.conf file. Expected Results: expected to boot into yaboot when turning on laptop or when manually selecting the bootstrap partition for booting in the OF prompt enter "boot hd:n,yaboot" where n is the number of your bootstrap partition at the OF prompt, boot into your new installation and create a sysfs mount point /sys this resolves the problem of the sysfs not being able to mount. it will then be possible to use commands like yabootconfig ofpath and mkofboot with success and your OF will be set to boot to the correct partition.
Can anyone of the PPC team check this out and ping whatever docdev you like (I'm not likeable :p) to fix this? I know Pylon is PPC but there are others as well. If you can't find anyone, please provide a patch (or patch-alike) to this bug.
This is a dependency problem of yaboot and the installed kernel. A recent yaboot can't work with a kernel older than 2.6.4. Unfortunately you probably get into that situation during a 2004.1 installation (like with an old GRP-yaboot but a recent kernel). Make a long story short, this is fixed on the 2004.2 release.
Oops, not ASSIGN bug, RESOLVE bug should have been chosen.
