The systemd unit for zabbix-agentd has a missing "-c configfile" option. It should look like this: [Unit] Description=Zabbix agent daemon After=network.target [Service] Type=forking User=zabbix Group=zabbix ExecStart=/usr/sbin/zabbix_agentd -c /etc/zabbix/zabbix_agentd.conf PIDFile=/run/zabbix/zabbix_agentd.pid [Install] WantedBy=multi-user.target This bug is in version ~2.2.4 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. systemctl start zabbix-agentd 2. 3. Actual Results: Fails, because the config file is not found (default is /etc/zabbix-agentd.conf), but Gentoo installs it under /etc/zabbix/zabbix-agentd.conf. So "-c" is required in unit file. Expected Results: Starting zabbix-agentd emerge --info Portage 2.2.8-r1 (hardened/linux/amd64/no-multilib, gcc-4.7.3, glibc-2.17, 3.15.2-hardened x86_64) systemd team: Please review suggested fixes to systemd unit files for zabbix and commit fixes and resolve this bug. Looks valid from my perspective as package maintainer, but I have no systemd experience, systemd systems to test with, or had any role in creating the original zabbix unit files - I do not feel comfortable just applying user patch on my own.
