Description Ian Delaney (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2014-06-19 07:20:58 UTC
Chris works as a SysAdmin, Linux Administrator II, in the "Cloud". He works for a large company leveraging the OpenStack platform. His broad ranging skills already encompass various aspects of networking, bootstrapping, booting from EFI, various virtualization technologies and esoteric methodologies of varying significance.

He likes to evaluate hardware and build high performance computers specifically for Linux compatibility, when he can afford it, in his home lab; working towards his 20 year goal of establishing his hometown's premiere ISP.
His role sees him come with established analytical skills and a solid understanding of the GNU/Linux OS and important system critical applications.
He has been a dedicated user and Gentoo advocate for many years. I have observed and supported his participation as a keen user in the #gentoo-virtualization channel for several months. He also has the added support of another Gentoo developer and colleague employed within the same organization; although, they live far apart geographically.

I have worked extensively with him over several of portage's packages and he has contributed by cross testing them. He already appears in a number of ChangeLog entries for the related ebuilds as a support helper. He is forever rebuilding and updating whole Gentoo systems and hence has a solid familiarity with portage.

Chris has a great sense of humor, a supportive nature and shares an interest in things native flora. I anticipate he will be a valuable added asset to the Gentoo Linux community.

He is about to begin the ebuild-quiz. While he has familiarity with system wide structures, concepts and practices, his area of learning will focus on the infrastructure of Gentoo and the technicalities of ebuilds and eclasses. The period of one month will likely be close to the mark.
