I guess the die() message could use improvement. The test isn't about versions but about a specific feature.
The check is looking for the needed feature: if ! test-flag-CXX -std=c++11; then die "You need at least GCC 4.7.x or Clang >= 3.3 for C++11-specific compiler flags" fi not for any specific version

I solved with gcc-config -f I hope it is of help. Try: gcc-config -f YourChoise.....
