Description Vladimir 2014-06-06 08:04:54 UTC
After a recent Qt (and some more programs) upgrade, the net-im/skype-2.2.0.35-r99 stopped working.
If I run it from GDB, I get this:

(gdb) run
Starting program: /opt/skype/skype
warning: Could not load shared library symbols for linux-gate.so.1.
Do you need "set solib-search-path" or "set sysroot"?
[Thread debugging using libthread_db enabled]
Using host libthread_db library "/lib64/libthread_db.so.1".

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
0x08076551 in QByteArray::append(char const*)@plt ()

Reproducible: Always

update it.

Do you mean upgrade to Skype 4? If so, I would not want to do that very much. In fact, I've been very happy being able to use Skype 2 on Gentoo all these years, since it missed all those features like built-in ads or clumsy interface of the newer versions. That is why I came here with the hope that this is not the end of Skype 2 yet. :)

Not sure what we can do about an abandoned version of a proprietary piece of buggy software.

Yes, sure. I understand that. And of course if there is no (more or less easy) workaround the Gentoo developers can suggest, I'll have to upgrade to the newer version. :(

I believe this bug can be closed as it's for an older version.
Additionally, Skype versions before 4.3 can no longer connect.
