The old version string is still mentioned in four files (in comments):

  * vhosts.d/00_default_vhost.conf
  * vhosts.d/default_vhost.include
  * modules.d/40_mod_ssl.conf
  * httpd.conf

Easy fix: change them all to 2.4.

This will be in the next gentoo-apache tarball rollout. Please keep this bug open until a fixed apache is in portage.
