Hi there A thing I miss is a site where you can see which packages, projects etc. need help or which packages are orphaned (Somthing like Debians WNPP http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/). Like that, it would be much easier for users, which want to help developing Gentoo (like me) to have a starting point, join and do something useful for the project.

I'd be willing to participate. I don't know anything about the internals of the gentoo website, nor how and where to collect the data needed for an "orphaned ebuilds database". [I wrote a script once that would look into the metadata.xml of all ebuilds in portage, checking for the <maintainer> field... a lot of packages did not have it. So I reckon the <maintainer> field is not that reliable... any thoughts?] I could do some coding (php, cgi, whatever...). But I could not do the whole thing on my own, plus I am rather bad at creating fancy layouts and icons. I guess we could use some material from the package database. Anyone who has experience in making webpages for gentoo willing to join?
Maybe this could be just realized with the Bug Database (like the Debian people do). We could create some guidelines of what a report for an orphaned package, a help request etc. should look like. With this system there wouldn't be redundancy between two systems (as it would be, if we create a new database/application) But maybe a standalone application would be a bit more comfortable. I'm also willing to help creating such an applicaiton, but we should ask the developers first, what they do like most. It's also possible to have somthing like a wiki, where developers can write in their requests for help, takeover etc. Let me know, what you like most or if you have other ideas

No work on this for a while (in the forum neither) I worked out a concept draft which I attached to the bug report. Feel free to add any comments or additions. Hopefully we get some new energy into this.

Very well done. I don't see anything wrong with your proposal. Someone should file this as a glep on http://gelp.gentoo.org. I don't have much time myself to file a glep this week though because of uni and work. Plus the WOS3 is on this week here in Berlin (http://wizards-of-os.org) and I volunteered as a helper. So I have a pretty tight schedule...

A good place to start would be the list of bugs assigned to maintainer-wanted@gentoo.org. This is allready verry similar with what you want. I don't know how up to date it is...
