Description Botykai Zsolt 2004-05-13 23:14:37 UTC
I just tried to emerge -uUDv world which tried this:
[ebuild U ] media-libs/libpng-1.2.5-r6 [1.2.5-r5] 0 kB
[ebuild U ] dev-lang/python-2.3.4_rc1 [2.3.3-r1] +X +berkdb -bootstrap -build -doc +gdbm -ipv6 +ncurses +readline +ssl +tcltk -ucs2 0 kB
So I added to /etc/portage/package.use this:
dev-lang/python doc
And then:
/usr/portage #: emerge -uUDvp world
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating world dependencies |
emerge: there are no masked or unmasked ebuilds to satisfy "=dev-python/python-docs-2.3.4_rc1*".

!!! Problem with ebuild sys-apps/man-pages-1.66
!!! Possibly a DEPEND/*DEPEND problem.

!!! Depgraph creation failed.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. as written above
2.
3.

Expected Results:
emerge world :-)

This is also a bug with repoman. repoman reports this situation as clean which
I imagine is how it ended up broken in portage. Maybe because it's behind two
negative use checks? Removing the !arm? negative use check causes repoman
to complain loudly.

my bad, i always check the docs, but forgot about it this time.

we need to get all the other arches on the docs as well. arch maintainers, can you all mark dev-python/python-docs-2.3.* to match the arch in dev-lang/python?

Unless it's been commited in the last hour or so, python-2.3.4_rc1 is lacking an equialent docs package and is causing emerge to die on a bad dep but the package it dies on is not the correct one (sparc-utils for me when doing an emerge -upvD system and app-emacs/vm when doing emerge -upvD world). Can somone do up an ebuild for that version if this hasn't already been addressed?
Comment 5 Bryan Østergaard (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-05-14 08:00:24 UTC
I bumped python-docs to 2.3.4_rc1.

I've just resynced and the problem is still present.

What arch? It's fixed on x86 and alpha.
Comment 9 Sandino Araico Sanchez 2004-05-15 00:52:11 UTC
