During shutdown therefore I do get a lot of error messages in one of my user mdoe linux images w/ encrypted swap partition.

it makes no sense to hardcode this for everyone.  we should be able to detect it dynamically though.

yep, a logic which evaluates something like

$> grep ^swap= /etc/conf.d/dmcrypt
swap=crypt-swap

would be fine.
