Description André Terpstra 2004-05-13 02:37:17 UTC
I've just compiled the vanilla kernel 2.6.6
It fails to complete the boot sequence due to a loss of interrupt on /dev/hdc (my DVD-ROM drive)

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

Actual Results:
Kernel boot seqeunce hangs

Expected Results:
Normal startup

bash-2.05b# emerge info

who is in kernel@g.o and who is in x86-kernel@g.o
which bugs should be assigned to which team `?
Comment 2 Greg Kroah-Hartman (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-05-14 14:00:27 UTC
Please post the kernel messages that happen when you boot. Without them, it
is impossible to help you out.

Comment 4 André Terpstra 2004-05-15 01:39:36 UTC
Well I'm having some problems pasting the exact kernel messages. Of course I switched to a previous kernel version to get booted correctly. Apparently, when I temporarily boot the 2.6.6 kernel its messages do not get written to or remain in /var/log/messages. So I repeat a few messages partly by hand. The last kernel messages were:

--------------------------
hda: xxxx sectors .....
  /dev/ide/host0/target0/lun0: p1 ...
ide-cd: cmd 0x5a timed out
hdc: lost interrupt
---------------------------

and these last 2 lines repeat after a few seconds. At this point nothing works, not even Ctrl-Alt-Delete. I have to perform a hard reset.
Comment 5 Michal Januszewski (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-06-20 05:13:22 UTC
Does this happen with development-sources-2.6.7? Did it happen with previous 2.6 kernels you used (if any)?
Comment 6 Greg Kroah-Hartman (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-06-21 11:40:38 UTC
This is an upstream problem, please file a bug at bugzilla.kernel.org if it
still happens for you on the 2.6.7 kernel.
