Maybe a duplicate of bug #4691, but the included makefile for vncviewer uses 
mcpu=i686 and march=i686.

owen, you're a ppc guy, I know, but this seems to be a cross-platform type issue.
bringing trance in on this as well.

VNC is extremly shitty. Use tightvnc instead.
