Just to verify, are you able to log into the web messenger yahoo client?

Also a debug capture of the attempted yahoo login will be needed.

the web messenger yahoo client, as in the service provided through the messenger.yahoo.com page? no, i am not, however this is because of a required browser plugin which is also failing for me.. blah.

Are you behind an HTTP proxy?
Comment 4 jieryn 2004-05-26 13:28:28 UTC
No, I am not behind any proxy.
Comment 5 Don Seiler (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-05-27 08:10:03 UTC
Well I know this is working for some AMD64 users: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=178051

So I have to attribute the problem to something unique to your situation. I assume since you use yahoo mail that you do know what your password is and that your account is active. I wonder if yahoo disables messenger accounts separate from other yahoo accounts. Is there a way to verify that your messenger login is active? Do you have a 32-bit machine to try gaim or any other client from?
Comment 6 jieryn 2004-05-27 08:27:19 UTC
just yesterday before work, i downloaded the win32 yahoo messenger client and entered my username/password. i was able to log in without problem. i am using a yahoo account for email, and this uname/passwd worked fine. erk. i am considering re-emerging gaim (again!) but i'm not hopeful.. *sigh*. any other ideas?
Comment 7 Don Seiler (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-05-28 11:02:38 UTC
Well this has us all stumped at the moment. I'll check back after asking around again.
Comment 8 Don Seiler (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-05-31 15:06:38 UTC
Nothing has changed that I know of but can you try with gaim-0.78 and let me know how it goes. If it still fails try moving your .gaim folder so you can start with a fresh set of gaim prefs and re-create your yahoo account and try again.
Comment 9 jieryn 2004-06-03 19:59:05 UTC
sorry for the long delay -- i was on a vacation and didn't have access to my linux box. i have re-emerged the .78 gaim and also clobbered my $HOME/.gaim directory... this allowed me to indeed get into yahoo. thanks for the advice, i'm sorry if i have had a conflict with many previous versions of gaim. i think i had those configs from a .5x series..! oh well. closing this bug, if i have auth.
