Description Torne Wuff 2004-05-12 13:04:46 UTC
Airsnort 0.2.4a is out. Attached diff removes PCMCIA dependency (as the use flag is not declared and pcmcia-cs is not required directly), and the GNOME dependency introduced in the previous version has been removed (airsnort no longer uses libgnomeui).
No other changes to the ebuild are required.

This version also supports the new orinoco-drivers that can set the card into monitor-mode (so there's no patch needed anymore).
Would be nice, if someone could bump the version

Is anybody at all maintaining the airsnort-ebuild? This report is now almost 3 months old and nobody responded...
Comment 4 fbusse 2004-10-01 09:18:49 UTC
The current version is 0.2.6 which fixes some annoying bugs that made airsnort sometimes unusable. Also improved kernel-2.6 support.

Its good that a new airsnort is out and all, but please integrate the changes mentioned in this bug that removes the useless gnome and pcmcia dependancies.

I downloaded the airsnort ebuild in this bug entry, manually applied the patch in this but entry, and it compiles and works fine without gnome.

The emerge of the airsnort-0.2.7c.ebuild went pretty well here.
Airsnort also starts. But after pressing the "Scan" button
I get "sh: /sbin/wlanctl-ng: No such file or directory". I think
this is due to the fact that I have an atheros based wlan card,
which is not supported according the airsnort readme.
In short: so far, 0.2.7c works.
Comment 11 Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-01-03 13:34:21 UTC
according to what I read on http://airsnort.shmoo.com/

you will need linux-wlan-ng and hostap and maybe net-wireless/wpa_supplicant

Can someone owning the hardware please confirm what is exactly needed?
Comment 12 Jürgen Hötzel 2005-01-04 01:38:50 UTC
@Martin:
You use net-wireless/madwifi-driver?
Simple put your card in monitor mode:

"iwconfig ath0 mode monitor"
"ifconfig ath0 up"

and select "Card: Other", and airsnort should work for you.

Comment 13 Martin Gramatke 2005-01-05 12:30:21 UTC
Thank you, J
Comment 14 Martin Gramatke 2005-01-05 12:30:21 UTC
Thank you, Jürgen. Madwifi/atheros works with your trick!

So airsnort-0.2.7c.ebuild is fine here.
