2.4 slot is obsolete and unmaintained by upstream for some time. I have seen Fedora is simply sedding configure to let it work with gmime-2.6, could you try if that is enough for using latest gmime?

afaik it works with 2.6 too (but i think some specific versions gave people problems.)
I will do some tests when I get around (those tests are a bit of a pain so not sure wehn i'll get enough time though)

dbmail-3.2.2 fixes this finally
