Code Listing 3.2 shows to edit /etc/rc.conf but then just below it the wording says: "When you're finished configuring these two files, save them and exit."

Only 1 file is being edited, just as in Code Listing 3.3 or Code Listing 3.4, which both use a phrase like: "When you're finished configuring $FILE, save and exit."  The text following Code Listing 3.2 should be similar as it is only 1 file being edited.
