anybody already has hands on that? 
I tried to migrate my apache instance to 2.4 as I want to deploy SSL with PFS but stumble over this module (which we use very frequently).

that module is dead and buried since ages, should be removed from the portage tree.

See if mod_authz_dbd suffice for your needs
