When installing a compute note, except in some very specific/rare cases, the rabbitmq server is on another computer (the "controller" in openstack terminology). So the /etc/init.d/nova-compute script should not start rabbitmq. Actually, I kinda guess that the 'nova' package should be splitted (or using USE flags) so that there's a way to install only the "compute" part of it, for those very common compute node. Those nodes don't need most of the packages installed by the gentoo nova package. Don't take me wrong : so far i appreciate a lot the work done for integrating openstack in gentoo.
