Description Nikos Chantziaras 2014-04-20 15:25:03 UTC
Doing a @world update results in the following:

-----------------------
WARNING: One or more updates/rebuilds have been skipped due to a dependency conflict:

x11-base/xorg-server:0

  (x11-base/xorg-server-1.15.1:0/1.15.1::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) conflicts with
    x11-base/xorg-server:0/1.15.0= required by (x11-drivers/xf86-input-evdev-2.8.2:0/0::gentoo, installed)
-----------------------

But I cannot find any conflict there. In fact, manually emerging the package works just fine:

-----------------------
emerge -a1 =x11-base/xorg-server-1.15.1
Password:

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild  r  U  ] x11-base/xorg-server-1.15.1 [1.15.0]
[ebuild  rR    ] x11-drivers/xf86-input-evdev-2.8.2

The following packages are causing rebuilds:

  (x11-base/xorg-server-1.15.1:0/1.15.1::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) causes rebuilds for:
    (x11-drivers/xf86-input-evdev-2.8.2:0/0::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge)

Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No]

Comment 4 Rafał Mużyło 2014-04-20 19:35:28 UTC
...under some, as of yet still unclear, conditions subslot deps sometimes ad oddly.

The major part of the problem is that '--ignore-built-slot-operator-deps y' is usually enough to get around the problem and after the proper package is emerged, the problem gets silenced in the subsequent emerges.

It happened to me at least once, though I don't remember which package triggered it. I also seem to recall similar sounding threads on the forum.
Comment 5 dwfreed 2014-05-31 02:25:08 UTC
This is generally caused by running out of backtrack "credits" before finishing dependency calculation, because a lot of backtracking takes place unnecessarily for subslots. few_ is working on fixing that, but in the interim, you can try supplying more backtrack credits with --backtrack=100 or so. There will be probably be some cases where you'll have to hold portage's hand a bit more firmly and rebuild specific packages it is complaining about. The complaints about liborcus and libixion are normal, due to dependency requirements of libreoffice.

This is probably also a duplicate of another bug, but I forget which number.
Comment 6 Zac Medico gentoo-dev 2016-07-07 15:55:29 UTC
Since this bug was reported, there have been a number of dependency resolver fixes related to subslot rebuilds. The latest fix, for bug 584626, will be in the next portage release.
