Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
I am probably a moron, but I have worked with this for the last week and a half trying to determine the problem.

I have found that the following bcyrpt-ruby files are on my system, but no "gem" is installed:

/usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/bcrypt-3.1.7
/usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/bcrypt-3.1.7/lib/bcrypt
/usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/bcrypt-3.1.7/lib/bcrypt.rb
/usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/bcrypt-3.1.7/lib/bcrypt_ext.so
/usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.9.1/specifications/bcrypt-ruby-3.1.7.gemspec
/usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.9.1/specifications/bcrypt-3.1.7.gemspec
/usr/lib64/ruby/gems/2.0.0/gems/bcrypt-3.1.7
/usr/lib64/ruby/gems/2.0.0/gems/bcrypt-3.1.7/lib/bcrypt
/usr/lib64/ruby/gems/2.0.0/gems/bcrypt-3.1.7/lib/bcrypt.rb
/usr/lib64/ruby/gems/2.0.0/gems/bcrypt-3.1.7/lib/bcrypt_ext.so
/usr/lib64/ruby/gems/2.0.0/specifications/bcrypt-ruby-3.1.7.gemspec
/usr/lib64/ruby/gems/2.0.0/specifications/bcrypt-3.1.7.gemspec

My current ruby is 1.9:

eselect ruby list
Available Ruby profiles:
  [1] ruby19 (with Rubygems) *
  [2] ruby20 (with Rubygems)
  [3] ruby21 (with Rubygems)

Attempting to perform the gem install according to the error message results in:

# gem install bcrypt-ruby -v 3.1.7
ERROR: Could not find a valid gem 'bcrypt-ruby' (= 3.1.7) in any repository
ERROR: Possible alternatives: bcrypt-ruby

I perform the same command not specifing the version does work:

gem install bcrypt-ruby
Fetching: bcrypt-ruby-3.1.5.gem (100%)

#######################################################

The bcrypt-ruby gem has changed its name to just bcrypt. Instead of
installing `bcrypt-ruby`, you should install `bcrypt`. Please update your
dependencies accordingly.

#######################################################

Successfully installed bcrypt-ruby-3.1.5
Parsing documentation for bcrypt-ruby-3.1.5
Installing ri documentation for bcrypt-ruby-3.1.5
Done installing documentation for bcrypt-ruby after 2 seconds
1 gem installed

I noticed the message stating the "bcrypt-ruby" is now "bcrypt", but gentoo currently has no ruby package named "bcrypt".

Comment 2 Rick Farina (Zero_Chaos) gentoo-dev 2014-04-18 19:31:06 UTC
I've notified upstream but I'm not really sure what is causing this. I have bcrypt-ruby 3.1.7 installed and this works for me.
Comment 3 Rick Farina (Zero_Chaos) gentoo-dev 2014-04-18 19:56:03 UTC
looks like the newer version of bcrypt-ruby changed name to bcrypt but the gentoo ruby maintainers have been installing some things for compatibility so it can be found as bcrypt and bcrypt-ruby... or so it seems. Again, it works for me, and I'm not sure why it doesn't work for everyone yet.
Comment 4 Rick Farina (Zero_Chaos) gentoo-dev 2014-04-18 22:11:38 UTC
Can you please test metasploit-9999 and let me know if it works?
Comment 5 Kenton Groombridge 2014-04-19 21:27:14 UTC
metasploit-9999 built and installed with no errors.
Comment 6 Rick Farina (Zero_Chaos) gentoo-dev 2014-04-21 19:21:23 UTC
I backported the upstream fix to the Gemfile to accommodate bcrypt's rename. Honestly this *shouldn't* have been nessesary, however, if it helps you, great. I've dropped 4.9.2-r2 in the tree, please reopen if it fails for you.
