I also observed the same thing, but now the access violation is gone. Do you still have the issue?

 I just tested once more.

Comment 3 Guillaume Horel 2014-04-23 16:46:04 UTC
Thanks for checking. Unfortunately I have no idea what's causing it. I don't understand why it came and went in my case. I would also try the new scilab-5.5.0 version that I pushed in the tree.
Comment 4 Juergen Rose 2014-04-24 23:53:53 UTC
I have one system, where I could emerge scilab-5.5.0 (and I could reemerge it succesfully today) and I have three systems where emerging scilab-5.5.0_beta1 and scilab-5.5.0 generates ACCESS VIOLATION. Until now I could not found any differences (versions of jdk-with-com-sun or icedtea) which can responsible for different behaviour.

Any idea, what I still could check to find the reason for the ACCESS VIOLATION?
Comment 6 Guillaume Horel 2014-04-30 16:59:09 UTC
I can't reproduce on my system anymore, so hard for me to debug. I remember that I deleted the .Scilab folder in my home directory, maybe you could try that just to be sure...
Comment 7 François Bissey 2014-04-30 21:56:22 UTC
Well the message from the Access violation seems to incriminate /home so hiding .Scilab for a moment may be an idea. But why would it try to do stuff in someone home directory? Unless it tries all the directories under /home....
You are not somehow using portage as a normal user?

I am running 'emerge -uvDN scilab' as root, sitting at /root;

root@impala:/root(20)# emerge -uvDN --exclude jlatexmath-fop scilab
...
make[1]: Leaving directory '/var/tmp/portage/sci-mathematics/scilab-5.5.0/work/scilab-5.5.0'

If I look in the environment I find three macros containing "home":
root@impala:/root(22)# env | grep home
EXPORT_DIRS=/home /usr/src /data /usr/portage /usr/local/portage/distfiles /usr/local/Bioinf /usr/local/gis
LOCATE_PATH=/var/spool/locate/impala:/var/spool/locate/home_impala:/var/spool/locate/usr_src_impala:/var/spool/locate/data_impala:/var/spool/locate/usr_portage_impala:/var/spool/locate/usr_local_portage_distfiles_impala:
...
GLOBAL_CONF_DIR=/home_caiman/rose/Txt/Configurations

But on the system, where I could emerge scilab-5.5.0, I have the same settings.
Comment 9 François Bissey 2014-05-02 10:16:19 UTC
Apart from under /var/spool/locate do you /home and /home_impala somewhere on the machine? Linking to each other? Do you have /var/spool/locate/home as well as home_impala?

I organized my local network, that at any "host" a partion is mounted at /home_"host", an other partition is mounted at /usr/src_"host", a further partition maybe at /data_"host". Then I have links from /home_"host" to /home and from /usr/src_"host" to /usr/src etc. Furthermore more I still have links from NFS shares to corresponding local points. 'updatedb' indexes the local filesystems and 'locate' finds with right setting of LOCATE_PATH files at the local filesystem and at NFS filesystem as well.

I have to wrap my head around your set up :) but I think there is potential for stuff to happen there.

If I look at the installed scilab 'qlist -v scilab', I find installed files under
/usr/include/scilab
/usr/share/applications
/usr/share/scilab
/usr/share/locale/en_US/LC_MESSAGES
/usr/share/bash-completion/
/usr/share/icons/hicolor
/usr/share/doc/scilab-5.5.0_beta1
/usr/lib64/scilab/
/usr/bin/
/etc/revdep-rebuild/

These directories are completely independent from my special settings. Why the installation of scilab tries now to access the /home directory?

I am not arguing, that's a good question. But if I believe your sandbox violation output stuff happens when the following command is executed:

/var/tmp/portage/sci-mathematics/scilab-5.5.0_beta1/work/scilab-5.5.0-beta-1/.libs/scilab-cli-bin -ns -noatomsautoload -f modules/functions/scripts/buildmacros/buildmacros.sce

So basically the compiled but uninstalld scilab is running some kind of script.
I wonder if it would work from a fresh install rather than an upgrade? Is there a
"modules/functions/scripts/buildmacros/buildmacros.sce" in the previous install?
Have to find what it is supposed to do in any case.

I can't find a modules/functions/scripts/buildmacros/buildmacros.sce" in the previous install. There is not a directory /usr/share/scilab/modules/functions/scripts/

> Have to find what it is supposed to do in any case.

I also deleted the scilab-5.5.0_beta1 installation and tried a new installation of scilab. I get again ACCESS VIOLATION with a lot of directories, files and links, which should not be interesting for scilab from my point of view:

After removing scilab, I did an additional 'emerge --depclean' which removed several java-packages. The subsequent 'emerge -uvDN scilab' reemerges these packages and then fails with a new error:

    [javac] /var/tmp/portage/sci-mathematics/scilab-5.4.1/work/scilab-5.4.1/modules/helptools/src/java/org/scilab/modules/helptools/scilab/ScilabLexer.java

Should I file a separate bug for this?

Looks like you're emerging scilab-5.4.1 now. Also you still have scirenderer installed (cause it's looking for paths like: /usr/share/scirenderer-1/lib/jogl2.jar). Can you remove it first and try again?

I started again with:

Then 'emerge -uvDN scilab' wants to emerge:

root@impala:/root(69)# emerge -uvDN scilab

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

This works until "jlatexmath-fop' which fails due to Bug 508504 . I suppose the subsequent 'emerge -uvDN --exclude jlatexmath-fop scilab' then tries to emerge
scilab-5.4.1.

Not true 'emerge jlatexmath-fop' did not fail. But 'emerge scilab' fails again with:

Comment 19 Juergen Rose 2014-05-14 10:30:55 UTC
Any news?
Which part of scilab-5.5.0.ebuild is responsible for the ACCESS VIOLATION, "prune_libtool_files --all" in src_install?
Why "/var/tmp/portage/sci-mathematics/scilab-5.5.0/work/scilab-5.5.0/.libs/scilab-cli-bin -ns -noatomsautoload -f modules/functions/scripts/buildmacros/buildmacros.sce" tries to access files in the / directory?
Comment 20 Guillaume Horel 2014-05-14 19:31:08 UTC
prune_libtool_files --all is not responsible for the access violation.

Why "/var/tmp/portage/sci-mathematics/scilab-5.5.0/work/scilab-5.5.0/.libs/scilab-cli-bin -ns -noatomsautoload -f modules/functions/scripts/buildmacros/buildmacros.sce" tries to access files in the / directory?

If I knew the answer to that question, then how to fix it would be pretty obvious... I'm out of ideas. Please ask upstream about this issue. Maybe they will know why you trigger this.

Same for me: sandobox violation emerging scilab-5.5.0 on both an x86 (atom N270) and amd64:

This sandbox violation is different, it's due to a call to glxinfo in the scilab script. The patch scilab-5.5.0-accessviolation.patch was supposed to fix it. As a workaround, you can just delete the test. Can you post your complete build logs? I want to understand why that line still gets executed.
