Well, this is my first bug post, but here goes. Anyway, this happens out of the blue, but usually when im not present. Im on a 56k connection that uses pppd of course, and sometimes when i get disconnect i get "pppd died unexpectantly" and i cant connect to the internet again. dmesg output is as follows: ------------[ cut here ]------------ kernel BUG at net/core/dev.c:3030! invalid operand: 0000 [#1] PREEMPT CPU: 0 EIP: 0060:[<c042845c>] Tainted: PF EFLAGS: 00210297 (2.6.5-gentoo-r1) EIP is at free_netdev+0x2c/0x50 eax: c7003400 ebx: c462a000 ecx: 00000000 edx: 00000003 esi: c7003400 edi: cc11ee00 ebp: c0571ca0 esp: c462bf48 ds: 007b es: 007b ss: 0068 Process pppd (pid: 10916, threadinfo=c462a000 task=cf842240) Stack: c0320c49 c7003400 00200286 ca686dc0 cc11ee00 00000000 cffe41e0 cfd598a0 c031d0fd cc11ee00 c71e0d60 c0154e3a cfd598a0 c71e0d60 c2a5df20 c71e0d60 00000000 c296fd40 c462a000 c0153499 c71e0d60 c296fd40 c296fd40 c71e0d60 Call Trace: [<c0320c49>] ppp_shutdown_interface+0x79/0xe0 [<c031d0fd>] ppp_release+0x6d/0x70 [<c0154e3a>] __fput+0x10a/0x120 [<c0153499>] filp_close+0x59/0x90 [<c0153531>] sys_close+0x61/0xa0 [<c010940b>] syscall_call+0x7/0xb Code: 0f 0b d6 0b 75 44 51 c0 eb dd 8b 88 00 02 00 00 29 c8 89 44 kernel is 2.6.5-gentoo-r1 but this has also happened with one of the 2.6.3 kernels
Please check if this happens with the latest development-sources and if it does, report in on http://bugme.osdl.org/. This is probably a bug in the kernel that needs to be taken care of by the people who maintain net/core code.
Upstream issue.
