mate-disk-utility is a fork of GNOMEs Palimpsest, a very handy GUI for disk mgmt. It can be found at: https://github.com/NiceandGently/mate-disk-utility
Tom, if you don't want to handle it, please reassign to m-w.
According to the MATE Desktop roadmap[1]; this was removed in release 1.4, it therefore seems that this is an unofficial fork. I'm not sure if it permissible to add it with its current name prefixed with mate-; besides that, a warning that this isn't to be associated with The MATE Team might be appropriate. Talking with both upstreams about the past and future of this package is highly adviced. This package has no maintainer so this bug may go unnoticed for a long time. Gentoo has a dedicated team[2] for assisting users in maintaining orphaned packages. If you are interested in maintaining this package, please contact proxy-maint@gentoo.org. You can also ask me, a MATE maintainer, for assistance. [1]: http://wiki.mate-desktop.org/roadmap [2]: https://wiki.gentoo.org/index.php?title=Project:Proxy_Maintainers

Then go from there.
Created attachment 386746 [details] update to 1.8.0 Noticed author has updated the app so refresh ebuild. No word on future status of this package
Created attachment 386748 [details, diff] no-avahi-c.patch

It appears that upstream, and the forked upstream have both given up on this piece of software. (In reply to Joakim Tjernlund from comment #3) > I see, will start with asking upstream why this package was removed. > Then go from there. Did you ever find out a reason for this? If you would like to proxy-maintain this, I would be willing to keep it up at least as long as MATE-1.8 is available in the tree. If you are not interested in proxy-maintaining this, I'm going to close this due to dead upstream. Starting with 1.10, I'm going to have gnome-disk-utility (which is compatible with MATE) as the default disk utility.

Proxy maintaining this package now that MATE 1.10 is out does not feel productive. Hopefully gnome-disk-utility can replace mate-disk-utility for me too
Incorporated gnome-disk-utility in mate-base/mate-1.10 https://gitweb.gentoo.org/proj/gentoo-mate.git/commit/?id=700d9b01301961d61493c25f3c704614e6701a67
