Description Omar Radwan 2014-04-01 02:45:23 UTC
I was trying to install Gentoo on a virtual machine, it went all fine up until when I tried to make a new directory for /mnt/home, when I typed in
"mkdir /mnt/home", it replied with "-bash: mkdir: command not found". And after that, when I tried to type in any other command it would just reply with either
"-bash: $(any command): command not found", or "-bash: /usr/bin/$(any commmand): No such file of directory".

I really think you guys should fix it, it would be really hard for anyone to install Gentoo without the ability to use the mkdir command.

Could you provide more details about the livecd you were using, and what else you had done before that? Also, could you provide the output of these commands:

/usr/bin/ldd /bin/mkdir
while read; do echo $REPLY; done < /proc/1/mountinfo

Are you able to reproduce this consistently across reboots?

I think this is probably due to a semi-failed boot, maybe a damaged iso or a driver problem affecting the boot. Omar, can you give us some more information? We cannot help at all with what you've given so far.
