Description Martin Lipocky 2014-03-21 20:27:16 UTC
Hello,

After you published sys-apps/dbus-1.6.18-r1 as stable I had troubles with stability. In systemd there were sometimes 4 four failed system services, this also prevented from starting xdm. Those failed services could be manually restored after restarting dbus and xdm started without reboot. But mostly the system started without failing. Unfortunately I have no idea why it sometimes had different behavior and what could cause it.

Eventually I had to get ebuild of sys-apps/dbus-1.6.18, because you had removed it from portage, downgrade it, incl. dependent dbus-glib and pulseuadio from 5.0 to 4.0. Since then I have not encountered any failed startups.

I'm running Gentoo compiled from scratch with stable keyword x86.

Without specific information about the problem you see, this is going nowhere. That means you at the very least:

1) Post your `emerge --info' output in a comment.
2) Attach the systemd output that shows what services fail to start (and why).

For me it's very difficult to find the part from the journal where these services failed:

systemd-logind.service
bluetooth.service
upower.service
NetworkManager.service
wpa_supplicant.service
The failure was intermittent, not at every startup. I could remember that I could restart the services one by one manually without failure.
dbus service was not failed, but I had to reload it.

This one was starting continuously in the loop:
xdm.service

It's not explicitly stated in the plain journal which service fails. Or there may be a switch I don't know of to see it.
