emerge --info portage-utils

=portage-utils-0.50 and =portage-utils-0.51
qdepends failed here.
Example:

# qdepends -Q xinit
qdepends: qdepends.c:493: qdepends_vdb_deep_cb: Assertion `len+1 < sizeof(use)' failed.
Aborted

Downgrade to =app-portage/portage-utils-0.41
works fine.

blah, that fixed the reverse check, but not the forward one.  so here's the other half which will be in 0.53:
