This is most likely an issue with the jabber server you are using. If not, please attach the output of echo | openssl s_client -connect $SERVER:$PORT -starttls xmpp -showcerts -CAfile /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt.

i registered a new account at a different server and the problem doesn't occur; mcabber works as expected.
