Current stable virt-manager ebuild is missing icons (shutdown, virtual hardware categories) unless x11-themes/gnome-icon-theme is installed as well. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 0. if installed, unmerge x11-themes/gnome-icon-theme first 1. emerge virt-manager 2. start virt-manager Actual Results: Some icons are missing (such as shutdown or device icons if setting up virtual hardware). Placeholder icons are shown instead. Expected Results: Icons should be present. When run with latest stable x11-themes/gnome-icon-theme-3.8.3 installed, all icons appear to be present, so a dependency to x11-themes/gnome-icon-theme should be added to the virt-manager ebuild. This appears to have come up before as bug #474810 but without adding the correct dependency. Also see bug report on Debian bug tracker: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=588964
Just noticed, that those icons appear to be replaced when resetting GTK themes via KDE System Settings / Application Appearance (although I had set it up before and other applications worked fine). However, since the default appearance is broken by default if no Gnome or GTK desktop is being used, dependency should be added. I'm also unsure what the effect on other GTK themes is but I suspect that x11-themes/gnome-icon-theme will still be required then.
This should be fixed without depending on another package in 0.10.0-r2.
