Are all the X_DEPEND and X_COMMON_DEP etc dependencies really required in DEPEND to compile this package? I have USE=-X (headless server), and do not want or need X libraries.

Unfortunately the deps are required as the build system does not support making them optional and we don't have the manpower to change that. That has to be solved upstream, sorry.
