Description James Dominy 2014-02-19 13:57:50 UTC
Enabling openGL compositing in englightenment causes enlightenment to crash, without a message, i.e. I am dumped to the login screen. When logging in again, the whole screen flickers between the login screen (minus the login prompt) and the desktop. It seems as if each frame alternates between sources. As a result I can see my login manager background superimposed over my desktop background.

This does not appear to be an enlightenment bug. I filed a bug (https://phab.enlightenment.org/T970) on their tracking system. You can see Raster's response there.

I'm currently using xf86-drivers/xf86-video-intel-2.99.910 with USE flags "dri sna udev uxa xvmc".

lspci reports my video hardware as

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09)

I just rolled back to the stable version of the intel drivers (x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel-2.21.15), and I have the same problem.

well, not much i can do here, only suggestion: try newer version of e18 (currently 0.18.5 in the overlay) and try other versions of your graphics driver

In trying to fix some other issues this morning, I found the source of the problem. I had efl and enlightenment compiled with USE="xcb". I flipped back to X, and the problem is gone. Upstream recommends against using xcb anyway, so, this can porbably be closed. At least the solution is here for other's to find it now.

should be fixed with the latest versions in the tree
